EYE ALLERGIES & CONDITIONS

Eye allergies are very common. In fact, an estimated 40 million Americans suffer from them. Most people experience itchy, red or watery eyes, which are symptoms of a type of eye allergy called allergic conjunctivitis.

Allergic conjunctivitis can occur at any time, but it's most prevalent during the spring and fall as a result of seasonal allergies. Perennial allergic conjunctivitis persists throughout the year, but can get worse during certain seasons. It's caused by exposure to constantly present household allergens such as pet dander, animal hair, mold or dust.

Pink eye is another condition caused by allergic conjunctivitis. With pink eye, the whites of the eyes (the conjunctiva) become inflamed, resulting in redness and excessive tearing in both eyes.

Seasonal allergies are caused by allergens that are released during pollination. The most common allergens that cause seasonal allergies are tree, grass and weed pollen.

For effective treatment of itchy eyes caused by seasonal and perennial allergens there's over-the-counter (OTC) Zaditor. It's the first OTC eye drop strong enough to last up to 12 hours with just one drop.
